March is a month for colorful celebrations. Whether it was for carnival, Mardi Gras, or St. Patrick’s Day, expats and global minds across the globe dressed up and celebrated together. From witches’ hats to green drinks and attires, our members got together to have fun and make new friends!
Venetian Masks for the “Fifth Season”
Just because you’re an expat, doesn’t mean that you can’t attend a German carnival celebration. InterNations Moscow met at Paulaner Olympic, an authentic German restaurant, to celebrate the “fifth season”. Costumes were very much encouraged, and a Cologne native was there to explain the carnival traditions of Cologne to all guests. After some eating, drinking, and mingling, as well as a raffle and a prize for the best costume, everyone hit the dance floor.
The InterNations Community in Breda had made it their mission to throw a typically Dutch carnival party, full of color, joy, and fun. Members who attended the event could participate in a costume contest and win a glamorous award. The first 50 guests also received a Venetian mask, to ensure that even those without a costume could add some glamour to the event.
For International Women’s Day, InterNations took a look at women working abroad and the countries that they are most satisfied in.
Women are less likely to move abroad for their career than men (25%
vs. 38%).
Czechia, Bahrain, Taiwan, Norway, Denmark, Luxembourg, New
Zealand, the Netherlands, Malta, and Australia offer the best working life for
women.
Women working abroad are more likely to be single and not have
kids than men working abroad.
Munich, 28 February 2019 — Women are more likely to be the
traveling spouse than actively pursuing a career abroad, as the latest Expat Insider survey by InterNations reveals.
In fact, 28% of female expats name love or their partner’s job/education as
their main motivation for moving, followed by just 25% citing reasons that are
related to their own career. Male expats, on the other hand, name work-related
reasons most commonly (38%), while just 13% moved for love or their partner’s
job/education.
For International Women’s Day, InterNations, the world’s largest expat community, took a look at the women that do work abroad and the countries in which they are happiest with their career. The findings are based on the insights of 8,855 female expats that took part in the Expat Insider 2018 survey, one of the most extensive surveys about working and living abroad, annually conducted by InterNations. For the survey’s Working Abroad Index, several topics such as career prospects, work-life balance, and job security are factored in.
Being the shortest month of the year, February can often fly by quickly. However, before March sneaks up on us, members from all over the globe have been coming together to celebrate Valentine’s Day and the Lunar New Year. Here are just a handful of this month’s highlights!
Love Is All Around
The Antwerp Community got together on Friday, 15 February, celebrating a day late with an After-Valentine’s Day Party. Hosted at the newly renovated Diamond Lounge in the Radisson Blu Hotel, members enjoyed an exclusive InterNations-only evening of drinking, dancing, and socializing. A big thank you to our Ambassador Alain Kerkhofs for organizing such a sophisticated evening!
Our Stockholm Ambassadors, Amaris C and Johannes Joergensen, decided to spoil the Stockholm Community on Wednesday, 13 February, with a Valentine’s party to remember at Hotel Hobo — one of the coolest new venues in town! Thank you both for hosting such a lively evening, we hope to see more exciting events in the future.
After a December that was filled to the brim with festivities, events, and fun activities, the beginning of a new year can seem a bit gloomy and uneventful. However, we are not going to let the January blues set in. Instead, our communities have come up with a lot of new events and activities to kick off 2019 the right way!
Elegant Parties and Reindeer in the Snow
The Helsinki Walking & Exploring Group got the year off to a great start with a visit to the reindeer farm in Nuuksio. After a relaxed walk from Haltia, the group spent the day enjoying the snow and feeding the reindeer and ended the day with some glogg and gingerbread by the campfire. Thank you, Anita, for organizing this amazing activity!
The Beijing Community set out to host not one of the best, but the greatest party ever, right at the beginning of the year. Getting together at Equis, the Four Seasons’ exclusive event location, expats and global minds enjoyed some live music and toasted to a new year filled with immense happiness and luck. Thanks to Ambassadors Gabriela Filipovici and Pablo Rojas Vidal, the event was a great success, and everyone started the year off on the right foot.
